Rob Phillips | Principal

rob-phillipsRob Phillips has worked primarily in the multi-family, residential, commercial and acquisition & development construction industries for the past 16 years. His experience began when he was hired as a Project Foreman with Corvallis, OR based construction company to oversee a 14 unit multi-million dollar subdivision. Mr. Phillips was responsible for the scheduling and coordination all of the subcontractors, scheduling the city/county inspections, and making sure the project was on track to be completed on time.

In 2003, Mr. Phillips decided to expand his construction knowledge and learn the lending side of construction. He was independently hired to perform the construction inspections for a Northwest construction lender. He quickly found a large demand for third party construction monitoring and formed Oregon Inspection Company, which specialized in residential, multi-family, A&D and commercial construction progress inspections. Mr. Phillips successfully grew Oregon Inspection Company to over 40 accounts with 26 independent inspectors performing over 1,200 monthly inspections in OR, WA, CA, CO, and ID. While at Oregon Inspection Company, Mr. Phillips’ duties included: scheduling all of the multi-state inspections, billing, and performing many of the Oregon & SW Washington inspections. Mr. Phillips then partnered with Bo Oswald in late 2007 to form Northwest Monitoring.  This partnership allowed the firm to provide comprehensive Residential, Commercial, Due Diligence and Owners Representation services under the single firm.  As a Principal at Northwest Monitoring, Mr. Phillips currently manages, reviews and coordinates all commercial and residential project reviews, monthly draw inspections and field service inspections.

Micah Dierickx | Project Manager

micah-dierickxMicah’s construction career began in 2003 after graduating from Oregon State University with B.S. in Construction Management from the school of Construction Engineering & Management. He was then hired by a large commercial construction firm to work as a Project Engineer in their Sacramento, CA office. He quickly grew through the ranks and was promoted to a Project Manager within one year after the initial hire. During this time he worked on small demo projects, site upgrade projects and new ground up projects that ranged from $200,000-$13M. Additionally, he was also considered the “go to” Project Manager to work on numerous expansions and remodels of existing facilities due to his extensive coordination and communication skills that helped maintain an efficient and streamline project.

In 2010, Micah relocated back to Portland to begin work for a local General Contractor to work as a Project Manager. During his tenure with the company he worked on a multitude of projects ranging from small Tenant Improvement projects, new ground up and design build projects that ranged from $50,000.00 to $10M. As with the previous company he was now considered the “go to” guy for all design builds that were awarded. Micah worked successfully on multiple design build projects from the initial schematic design all the way through to the on time construction completion and turnover of the project.

Over the 15 year career in the construction field, Micah has gained great understanding in all aspects of construction. This ranges from feasibility of construction, design, estimating, scheduling/coordinating, contract review, buyout/negotiating, writing contracts, delivery and procurement, submittals, RFI’s, change orders, cost/budget management, review and approval of subcontractor pay applications, Owner pay applications, quality assurance, value engineering, acquiring permits, closeout and warranty items. Micah is a valuable member of the NWM team and critical manager of our construction project monitoring processes.

Nick Lettin, LEED® AP+ | Project Manager

nick-lettinNick Lettin has worked in some facet of the construction industry since high school and knowing he wanted a career in construction, he attended Colorado State University and received a bachelor degree in Construction Management in 2006. After graduation, he worked for a large commercial mechanical contractor in Denver Colorado. The mechanical projects he was involved with ranged from Medical Office Buildings (MOB’s), to fountains, to LEED Platinum High-rise Offices. While there, Nick’s responsibilities included subcontractor management, buy out, LEED documentation, billing preparation, and budget analysis.

Nick relocated back to Portland in 2010 where he signed on with an international EPC (Engineer, Procure, Construct) Firm. He held a variety of positions within this company including Estimator, Project Manager, and Superintendent. During his involvement in the pre-construction side of projects, he helped clients with conceptual estimates, budget estimates and feasibility studies. Some of the project types included Solar Installations, Carbon Fiber Facilities, Lithium Ion Battery Manufacturing, Food and Beverage Production, and Waste Recycling Facilities. Project locations were spread throughout the United States and primarily involved international clients. During his travel he has been able to develop his management practices and adapt to a wide variety of jurisdictions, owners, and contractors.

Now, as part of the NWM team, Nick performs monthly draw inspections, conceptual estimating and project cost reviews for clients throughout the Northwest.

Drew Wedeking | Project Manager | Seattle, WA

drew-wedekingAfter graduating from the University of Oregon in 2005 with a degree in Business Administration, Drew obtained his securities licenses and became an investment advisor for Madison Avenue Financial Group, a boutique investment and insurance firm based in Lake Oswego, Oregon.  After a few years working in the financial markets, Drew realized that his heart was not in the investment world and left to pursue an opportunity as an independent construction consultant. This sparked an interest in energy efficiency, conservation, and green construction, which led him to a job with a Portland-based energy efficiency retrofit contractor.  In this role, he conducted diagnostic energy audits, developed comprehensive budgets and work scopes, and performed technical field verifications.

Seeking a change in scenery, in 2013 he moved to Port Angeles, WA to become a Technical Field Coordinator for a federally funded weatherization program.  He performed diagnostic energy audits in accordance with Department of Commerce guidelines, developed project work scopes, managed projects, and performed quality control inspections to ensure compliance with federal standards.  After two years on the Olympic Peninsula and missing the bustle of city life, Drew moved to Seattle to work as the Trade Ally Manager for the Community Power Works program, an energy conservation program operated by Seattle City Light and the Seattle Office of Sustainability and Environment.  In this position, he performed quality control inspections in the field and managed a team of inspectors and energy auditors, managed the program’s network of HVAC, insulation, and home performance contractors, assisted with developing program policy and standards, and performed extensive reporting to the City of Seattle to track program progress.  As the CPW program reached its conclusion, Drew signed on with Northwest Monitoring to assist with expanding throughout the state of Washington.

In his spare time, Drew enjoys taking advantage of the incredible Pacific Northwest topography, including backcountry snowboarding, mountain climbing, backpacking, and trail running.

Grant Takahashi | Project Manager

grant-takahashiGrant Takahashi, originally from Hawaii, attended Oregon State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.  After graduation, he took a job with a large General Contractor in San Jose, CA as a field and office engineer, helping complete a $26MM Service Yard for San Jose Public Works.  After gaining experience with this large Contractor, Grant came back to Oregon in 2007 to work for an up and coming EPC (Engineering, Construction, Procurement) firm that specialized in Industrial Processes, where he held multiple positions in estimating, project engineering, construction management and sales, ultimately working his way up to being one of the top performing Project Managers in the NW operations.

After 9 years in the construction industry, Grant has experience in office building, semi-conductor plants, pasta/flour manufacturing, food process manufacturing, and restaurants – ranging between $250M-$30MM.  He has extensive knowledge in building systems as well as all aspects of construction management, including permitting, design, budget analysis, estimating, scheduling, subcontractor buyout, owner and subcontractor contract review, project proposals, owner and subcontractor invoicing, payment schedules, etc.  His duties as a Project Manager included direct interface with his customers, management of all areas of engineering (civil, geotech, structural, MEP, etc.), management of his superintendents, and was held solely responsible for all projects sold to the customer.

Grant has joined the NWM team because of his extensive construction background, attention to detail and strong communication skills with both clients and contractors.

Scott Murphy | Project Manager | Boise, ID

scott-murphyScott has over 18 years of postgraduate construction experience.  His experience is primarily in the commercial and residential markets but he also includes two years managing government contract projects.  Scott has a unique skillset with knowledge as a general contractor and bank consultant.

Scott has been with Northwest Monitoring (NWM) since 2014 and manages all of our Idaho commercial, Acquisitions & Development and residential projects.  Prior to joining NWM, Scott was an owner/operator of Murphy Construction Inc. as a general contractor on Commercial and Residential projects throughout Idaho.  

Scott attended West Virginia University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Civil & Environmental Engineering with a minor in Business Administration.  

Ben Goerges | Project Manager

ben-goergesBen has expansive knowledge of building with over 15 years of experience in the commercial construction industry as a project manager, assistant project manager, project engineer, and estimator working on multimillion-dollar projects. Ben’s experience with a wide array of building structures includes industrial, assisted living, office, retail and commercial buildings. His responsibilities span from inspections, photo documentation, maintaining as-built drawings, estimating, budget management, RFIs, CORs, scheduling, and renovation management to project closeout. Ben’s focused attention and dedication was demonstrated with completing projects on time and under budget; an added benefit to any project team. His ability to work with contractors to owners and architects gives him a solid understanding of and ability to handle the ever-changing complexities involved throughout the duration of a project.

After 10 years of working for commercial general contractors, Ben got an opportunity to work for a consulting company doing construction defect claims and after 2 1/2 years working as a project manager for this construction consulting company, he started InView Consulting in 2017 and continues to provide sub-consulting services to several construction consulting companies. In addition to sub-consulting, Ben has begun providing aerial photography and photo documentation services on construction projects.

In 2017, Ben joined NWM as a project manager consultant and assists with all services provided by NWM. Ben is an asset to our team.

Mitchell Nicholson | Project Manager

mitchell-nicholsonSome say that necessity breeds opportunity. After graduating from the University of Oregon in 2008 with a B.S. in Psychology, Mitchell found himself in an economic downturn searching for opportunity. At the top of a very small list of options was the wide world of construction. From the world of academia to carpentry, Mitchell spent the next five years honing his craft with tool bags on. It’s here that he found a passion in all thing’s construction related. From the role of a carpenter with a residential contractor in Harrisburg, OR to superintendent with a small commercial contractor in Salem, OR–Mitchell’s field experience gave him a unique perspective on the construction process.

That perspective gave Mitchell an entry into project management with two of Portland’s larger commercial contractors. After four and a half years, with projects ranging from $2mm to $35mm in multifamily, education and grocery, Mitchell was able to compile a well-rounded understanding of the commercial construction world including estimating, contracts, value engineering, subcontractor buyout, scheduling and construction management.

Keeping with the trend, Mitchell found an opportunity with NWM in January of 2018 and has been helping tackle draw inspections and project reviews in the central Willamette Valley since.

Nate Carter | Project Manager

nate-carterNate Carter brings over 20 years of experience working in the realms of single-family developments, residential & commercial construction, and architecture. Nate began working during high school summers and beyond with a land development firm on drafting home designs, establishing preliminary construction budgets, and working with local jurisdictions to obtain building permits. From there Nate moved into working for a small general construction contractor, where he oversaw site preparation and daily project schedule as well as working with local jurisdictions on the various inspections that happen throughout a construction project. In 2000, Nate went to college in pursuit of an architecture degree while working during the summer on construction projects. In 2005, Nate graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Architecture degree and moved to Portland, Oregon to start his architectural career. Since then he has become licensed to practice architecture in Oregon and Washington. Over the course of his architectural career, Nate has developed a reputation as a detail-oriented designer and project manager. His responsibilities include building design, constructability review, code research, document creation, as well as interfacing with client, consultants, and regulatory agencies.

Nate found an opportunity with NWM in early 2016 to help with project reviews and draw inspections for commercial buildings and A&D projects in and around the Portland/Vancouver Metro Area.

Greg Perkins | Project Manager

greg-perkinsGreg is a fourth generation Oregonian and still has strong ties to Oregon. He is a graduate of Oregon State University and has a B.S. in Business, with a concentration in Accounting and Finance, and a minor in Engineering. Greg has owned and been involved in real estate development and building since 1994. The projects have been in Oregon, Washington, and California. This has entailed everything from residential development and home building, to commercial and industrial construction. He is also a licensed real estate principal broker in Oregon and has been practicing since 1987.

With NWM, Greg provides support for both the residential and commercial draw inspection throughout both Oregon and Washington.

Tim Johnson | Project Manager

tim-johnsonTim has a diverse construction background beginning in high school and through college working in heavy construction for his family’s construction business. Tim began from the ground up learning to operate machinery to more technical skills in shooting grade, concrete pours to asphalt and paving projects. Tim graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Communications. Tim began his career in sales as a lumber broker in Portland, Oregon but the high desert was calling his name and after 31 years in Portland Tim moved to Bend to work for a small residential home builder. During these years Tim was able to experience and work in all phases of residential and some commercial construction projects. This involved understanding and working on land acquisition and development, managing trades and subcontractors, sales and customer service. During this time Tim partnered with Rob to help inspect residential construction projects in Central Oregon and has continued to support them in their growth into commercial projects. When the bottom fell out of the construction business in 2007 and 2008, Tim followed a passion for helping others and went to work for Abilitree, a Central Oregon based non-profit that supports adults with disabilities and assists them in integrating into their community and finding employment. Tim provided management and business development service for 2 years and was the organizations Executive Director for six years.

In March of 2018, Tim decided to leave Abilitree to pursue other opportunities and is again drawn back to construction and partnering with NW Monitoring as a Project Manager for all of Central Oregon. Tim’s knowledge of construction, his dedication and involvement in Central Oregon business makes him a great asset for NW Monitoring and our relationships with lenders and property owners.


Tori Rex | Office Manager

tori-rexTori has been working in both the residential and commercial construction industry for nearly three decades. Her experience began with working for a large roofing supplier in northern California. In 1989, she moved back to Oregon and worked as an administrative office assistant for a Demolition and Excavation Company. Her duties included developing office policies and procedures, business management, daily operations and implemented safety procedures within the company to help lower risks for the fast-growing company. After a couple of years, Tori began working full time for a Siding and Window Company owned by her spouse for 16 years and during that time she continued to work part-time at the excavation company.  While working at both companies Tori assumed the roles of Office Manager, Accounting Manager and Project Coordinator. Her responsibilities included maintaining and processing all accounting aspects of both companies (A/P, A/R, payroll and HR), estimating, contracts, monthly draws/billings, lien waivers, material handling, and scheduling.

In 2007, she moved on to working in commercial construction for a large general contractor with over 20 offices in the United States. Tori was the Administrative Assistant to the Senior Vice President, Risk Management, Estimating and Marketing departments.  She also assisted the Project Managers and Safety Managers on a regular basis for all projects in the Northwest. Her duties included maintaining monthly operation and projection reports, subcontract review, maintaining subcontractor insurance certificates, AIA billings, RFI’s, Submittals and provide training to all project coordinators and office personnel.

In 2013, Tori took on the role of Office Manager at NWM.  She manages the ongoing report administration, pay application auditing, lien waiver review, scheduling and field inspector coordination. Tori is a tremendous asset of the NWM team.

Tracy Sattler | Bookkeeping

Tracy Sattler has been a valued and integral part of the NWM team since 2008.  Tracy keeps NWM’s finances and bookkeeping on the straight and narrow while giving the principals the time to focus on serving their clients.  Tracy has worked for various accounting firms around the Portland area and has significant experience in all facets of accounting and bookkeeping.

Bo Oswald, LEED® AP | Advisor

Bo Oswald founded Northwest Monitoring with Rob Phillips in 2007.  In 2015, an opportunity presented itself to Bo and he made the tough decision to transition out of NWM and into his next career challenge.  Bo continues to act in an advisory role with NWM.  He remains in close contact with the all of the NWM staff to help provide input regarding processes and specific projects on an as needed basis.  Bo will always be considered a part of the NWM family and he looks forward to watching NWM continue on as the Northwest leader in construction loan monitoring.
